Artist Statement
My work focuses on transformations of the human mind and body via wheel-thrown and altered ceramic pieces at the intersection of function and sculpture. I am currently exploring themes of family history and aging. I am fascinated by the malleability and resilience of clay and its parallels to human nature. Starting from a soft state, it is torn, taken apart, and reassembled. It dries, cracks, and undergoes irreversible transformations in the heat of the kiln. A new body emerges that bears the marks of all lived experiences - imperfect, but more beautiful than ever before.
